NagireddyPali Road Huts Project for Education of Children
Image
These 62 Huts, with 235 residents including adults and children are located at Nagireddypalli road, Kothacheruvu, Anantapauramu district. The members of this community belong to rather an improvised and underprivileged sector of the society. They do daily business when possible, such as selling bangles, ready-made dresses, steel vessels, balloons, sarees and tinkering works (making of household items). They purchase the goods from the wholesale sellers and roam in different close by villages in order to sell their items with little profit, so they can maintain their families’ livelihood.
The community is faced with many problematic issues. They don’t own the land and they live in self built tents without bathrooms or proper hygiene facilities. The tents are made with bamboos and cloth materials on top. During the rainy season, water may enter easily into the huts. They use open area for defecation. Women go after sunset before sunrise. They usually go to farther places with trees and bushes where nobody walks or passes by. In rainy season, it is impossible to go out door. All the areas are made by waste soil and are slippery or unsafe. In this place, the ones who are suffering more from the above conditions are sick, old people, women in general and pregnant women specifically, plus children.

At night time, there are no street lights. Coming and going out of the community is rather highly risky. Sometimes, while walking in the dark, those who are physically vulnerable, may slip, fall, and get wounded.

Many adults claim that they are fifth generations living in such conditions. Therefore, children born and raised in this community, if continued living in the above circumstances, they too will have no means to leave this life style, unless they are helped to expand their vision, learn skills and gain knowledge to break the chain. Moreover, if not protected and supported, they may become victims of human trafficking as beggars, child labourers, and/or the girls will be forced to child marriage.

In order to make a difference in the lives of these ‘at risk’ children, Angels Joy has hired teachers to help them with their secular education as well as arranging programs for them so they can grow with a solid background in human values. The teachers and volunteers are asked to expand their horizon and vision to new possibilities; plus, motivating them to strive for advancement in arts, music, sports and life skills.
